My first two years at secondary school were living hell. I was bullied in particular by a boy, but because of his popularity I soon became the most unpopular girl in the year and was picked on by a lot of people. The boy was the worst. At the start of the bullying, he used to joke about stabbing me while I was asleep at home. It escalated from there. He used to corner me a lot, and when we would be surrounded by other people in the year, he would make me do things I didn’t want to do, such as sing (things he knew I couldn’t do well), and got people to laugh at me. He and a lot of other boys made sure I knew how ugly I was. I was compared to Shrek and worse. By the end of the two years, my little self-confidence had been destroyed, and no matter how many times I went to a teacher, nothing was ever done. The boy and others were never punished. In fact, when I had a note to move away from him from a counselor, the English teacher told me I couldn’t move, and it was my fault he was being mean to me. Just before I moved schools, on sports day the bullying turned physical. We were on a steep slope where everyone was sitting, and there was a metal railing directly at the bottom of the slope. I was standing, and he suddenly came over and started calling me names and mocking me for no reason with some mates, then he pushed me as hard as he could, and there was one of his mates kneeling down behind me. I fell down the hill and nearly hit my head on the metal railings at the bottom. I had also badly hurt my ankle. When I went to see matron and told her what happened, she dismissed it, and nothing was done about it. Shortly after, I moved schools. This boy was never punished for what he did to me, and the bullying continued non-stop for two years.
